Resonating with Purpose

Today I’m talking about resonating with your purpose.

The ways in which the universe starts responding once you make a determination and commit to your purpose, your desires, your dreams.

The way in which these serendipitous events start happening to support you, inspire you, inform you, give you amazing opportunities.

Opportunities for growth, for learning, for achieving and seizing the beautiful outcomes of your purpose, with an open heart, and an open mind.

So what do I mean when I talk about purpose?

I mean your reason for doing, for living, for imagining, and creating, and working so hard. Your why. You can achieve anything in the world if you are deeply connected to why you’re doing it. This why is the source of motivation, of discipline, of inspiration. It is your purpose.

Finding out the deep reason, the true purpose, of your life or your goal means sitting and reflecting. Inspecting. Digging deep, uncovering the hidden, lighting up – so you can see it, handling – so you can feel it, and becoming intimate with your deep desires. Because a light-hearted, surface level idea of your purpose is not going to carry you through. It’s just not. You need something deeper.

So, say you want to start the business of your dreams.

Why?

Because you want to express your ideas and creativity.

Okay, why?

Because you crave independence and financial success.

Great, why?

Because you want to live with freedom in your heart.

YES. Now we’re getting to the core of the matter.

If you are working everyday based on vague or surface level ideas of purpose then your energy, enthusiasm, motivation, and forward movement can slow down and ebb away all to easily. You need a powerful anchor in this sea of life. You need to grasp your purpose. And then you need to commit to it.

How do you commit to your purpose?

You DECLARE it.

To yourself: in your mind, in your journal, written on sparkling paper on your notice board, on post-it notes across your home, in the notes on your phone, as an audio memo you can play back to yourself when you feel you are drifting from your anchor-point.

To your world: tell your family, your friends, write about it on your blog, mention it in passing to the nice lady at the shop, when someone asks “How are you?” give them the big juicy truth of your purpose.

Commit to the business plan, the new class, starting school again, writing that book, creating that garden, that masterpiece, that composition that has been singing in your heart. And, maybe it’s been singing in your heart all of your life. This why, this purpose, this real core reason – that is the anchor you’ll come back to again and again. It will carry you through this process of creation, of inspiration, of bringing forth your work.

Maybe this isn’t something you create just for yourself. Maybe this is the day job – maybe you wake up and go to work and your why is connected to that.

The difference that makes in your life when you feel connected to what you do is incredible. Yeah, okay, you could get up and do your 9 to 5 and not feel connected to it. But that’s your life you’re not feeling connected to. Those are 8 hours of living, breathing, heart-beating life that you deserve to feel connected to, that you deserve to feel purposeful about.

So find your purpose. Your why.

Interrogate it. Make sure it’s the deep down truth of the matter. And then adjust accordingly. You’ve found your anchor, now it’s time to adjust your sails and move forward, knowing that you can drop that anchor and re-centre yourself whenever you need to. Drop down into your purpose and feel the energy, inspiration, and determination fill you up and fuel you for the next leg of the journey.

Then keep your eyes open. You intuition finely tuned. Keep your ear to the ground, your nose to the wind, and your eyes on the horizon. Metaphorically speaking. Because serendipity is about to become your best friend.

Declare your purpose just once, and watch the ripple effect. It’s the flap of a butterfly’s wing and the universe is going to perk up and take notice.

That lady you mentioned your excitement and purpose to at the grocery shop? She’s going to tell her friend about you, pass that business card over, and you’ll have found your first paying customer.

You’re going to get an email out of the blue from your old university professor and get invited to speak to students about their future. (That one happened to me this February!)

You’re going to meet someone who has a lifetime of experience and connections. Someone who sees the potential in you and your purpose and hooks you up with a network of beautiful minds.

You’re going to see your loved ones look at you and smile, right into their eyes, because your joy is their joy and YES you are doing the right thing.

This is resonance.

This is your purpose being both an anchor for you and a lighthouse to the universe. Keeping you strong in your vision, and drawing positivity, success, synergy, and serendipity into your life.

Do this today. Tonight. While you’re sitting on the train commuting to work. While you’re cooking, or cleaning, or working out. Do it while you’re meditating, while you’re in savasana. Do it with lit candles and incense, do it with your window open and the scent of rain on the air.

Ask yourself: “What is the why of my dreams? What is the deep purpose that is driving me?”

Analyse, interrogate, be delicate, be introspective, handle gently, light all of the answers you with the glow of warm sunshine, and then go even deeper. Until you’ve reached the incandescent truth of your purpose.

Then promise me this: make your declaration. Plant your feet and declare your intention. Fill yourself up with the power of your purpose and feel the way your life starts to resonate with it.
